To provide a radio apparatus, capable of changing to other transmission/reception unit before a failure happens in an original equivalent unit, which is a necessary constituent for the radio apparatus, and of avoiding the operation stop state due to the failure, while not requiring works for identifying the failed constituent after the failure.

The radio apparatus is provided with an estimation section 17 for estimating characteristics degradation or aging, based on the information stored in a storage section 15 and the result of inspection to determine the cycle of inspection, and based on the result of a comparison section 16, controls the changeover of the transmitting/receiving unit and the inspection carried out with the cycle determined by the estimation section 17. The performance degradation tendency, including performance aging, is calculated based on the inspection result, wherein the inspection of the other transmitting/receiving unit is carried out by using the original transmission/reception unit, and the tendency is compared with a reference value stored in the storage section and can change over to the other transmitting/receiving unit, before failing to operate.
