To provide a radio communication system, transmission apparatus and reception apparatus in which an excellent error rate property is achieved regardless of propagation environments.
In the radio communication system including the transmission apparatus and the reception apparatus for performing communication using a multicarrier signal in which a plurality of pilot signals are disposed in a time base direction and a frequency base direction, respectively, the reception apparatus comprises: a quality generation means for generating reception quality information of pilot channels for transmitting the pilot signals, respectively; a determination means for determining the number of pilot channels required for the multicarrier signal on the basis of each of the reception quality information; and a notification means for transmitting a signal requesting the determined number of pilot channels to the transmission apparatus, and the transmission apparatus comprises: an arrangement means for determining the arrangement of the pilot signals in the time base direction and the frequency base direction in accordance with the requested number of pilot channels; and a transmission means for transmitting a multicarrier signal having the determined arrangement of pilot signals.
