This radiograph reader drives a means for connecting a cumulative phosphor sheet holding member and a balancing member for helping the movement of the holding member under the existence of the vibration damping means, moves the cumulative fluorescent substance sheet in a subscanning direction and performs principal scanning with excitation light. The image reader has a means for suppressing the vibration of the vibration damping means itself.
