Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low-cost railway vehicle drive system.SOLUTION: A railway vehicle drive system comprises an induction generator 2 driven by an engine 1, a converter 3 for converting alternating-current power generated by the induction generator 2 to direct-current power after start-up of the engine 1, an inverter 5 for converting the direct-current power to alternating-current power and outputting the converted power to an induction motor 6 after start-up of the engine 1, and an engine starting battery 4 parallel-connected between the converter 3 and the inverter 5. For starting up the engine 1, the converter 3 converts direct-current power supplied from the engine starting battery 4 to alternating-current power, and the alternating-current power allows the induction generator 2 to be operated as an electric motor to start up the engine 1.
