To provide a railway vehicle drive unit exhibiting excellent lubricating performance by maintaining a constant oil level height of a lubricant.
The railway vehicle drive unit 12 includes: a reduction gear housing 13 having a space sealing the lubricant inside thereof, supported on an inside diameter surface of a wheel 11 and integrally rotating with the wheel 11; an input side rotating member 14 connected to a drive source; a speed reduction mechanism 15 arranged in the space with at least a part thereof immersed into the lubricant, reducing rotation of the input side rotating member 14 and transmitting it to the reduction gear housing 13; and a lubricant holding chamber 35 arranged in a position separated from the space and communicated with the space in the state of allowing mutual movement of the lubricant.
