Abstract:
An improved blowout preventer has a body 12 with a central bore 14 and aligned opposed passages 16 extending out from the central bore and a ram assembly 18 in each of the passages. Each assembly has a ram body 22 with passages 34, 36 extending between the front and rear of the ram above and below a face seal 24 and valve means 32 are provided on a connecting rod 30 extending between the ram and a pressure responsive actuator to close the passages 34, 36 on initial closing movement of the connecting rod and to open the passages on initial opening movement of the rod.
