PURPOSE: To prevent turbulence of a pitch, to prevent step-out of a motor and to improve a printing state by setting a sliding frictional force of a carriage for moving a ribbon cassette to a suitable value.

CONSTITUTION: When a pitch of a ribbon is disordered at the time of winding the ribbon, a screw 10 is turned, and a roller 14 is moved to a guide shaft 5 side. Then, a sliding frictional force Fc of a carriage is increased, a predetermined tension is applied to the ribbon, and disturbance of the pitch can be suppressed. On the other hand, when the force Fc is excessively large so that a load is excessively applied to a driving motor, the roller 14 is, on the contrary, moved in a direction separating from the shaft 5, the force Fc is reduced to prevent a step-out of the motor.
