PURPOSE: To obtain a recording fluid which, when used for ink jet recording, has good delivery and can give a record being satisfactory in water resistance, print quality, light resistance, etc., and having high recording density.

CONSTITUTION: This fluid comprises an aqueous medium, a pigment and at least one polymer comprising repeating units each represented by the formula (R1 is H, a halogen atom or (substituted) methyl; and M is H, an alkali metal, ammonium or a group of an organic amine salt).
