PURPOSE: To make a driving device small-sized and light-weight by using an ultrasonic oscillation driving device as the driving device which runs and drives a recording medium like a tape.
CONSTITUTION: An electrode 9 is attached to a piezoelectric element 1 constituting an ultrasonic oscillation driving part 6-1, and multiphase AC voltages are applied to the electrode 9 to excite and oscillate the piezoelectric element 1, and a progressive wave is generated on the surface of an elastic body 2 adhered to the piezoelectric element 1, and a moving body 10 brought into contact with the elastic body 2 is driven by the progressive wave. A recording medium 3 like a tape is directly brought into contact with the surface of the elastic body 2 as the driving face of the ultrasonic oscillation driving part 6-1 or is brought into contact with the outside peripheral surface of a rotor part which is rotated while brought into contact with the surface of the elastic body 2, and a pinch roller 5 is pressed to clip the recording medium 3 between them, and the recording medium 3 is run and driven. The speed, the phase, etc., are controlled by the amplitude and the frequency of the electric input applied to the piezoelectric element 1 in this recording medium driving device. Thus, the recording medium driving device is obtained which is made small-sized and light-weight and has high performance and simple structure and is easy to assemble.
