To form images to both of faces of a body to be recorded by effects of a transfer efficiency improvement, prevention of image bleeding and the like, and effectuate miniaturization and energy saving by forming a transfer image to an intermediate transfer body to which a liquid is applied according to image signals, and transferring to form the image to a plurality of faces of the body to be recorded.
A set agent is applied to a surface of an intermediate transfer belt 102. An image of an image signal is formed by an ink jet recording head 101. That no existing image is present is made sure by an image detector 126. A recording body is supplied and transferred from a paper feed tray 106 with a timing whereat the image and the set agent of the image part are transferred and pressured by a transfer pressure roller 114. That no existing image is present at a rear face is made sure by an image detector 125. The recording body is inverted via a route C1 by a switching lever 129. After it is detected by a detector 134 that the recording body is completely stored in a temporary preservation tray 131, switching levers 127 and 132 are switched to form a new image to the belt 102. The paper is supplied and transferred via a route C2 from the tray 131 with a timing whereat the image is transferred by the roller 114. Printing to double faces is thus achieved.
