Title:
REDUCING AGENT FOR MOLTEN COPPER
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH051338
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a low-cost reducing agent for molten copper capable of simply and surely reducing molten copper contg. a large amt. of oxygen with high efficiency in a safe manner by incorporating Fe, Si and Mn as essential components in a specified ratio.

CONSTITUTION: This reducing agent for molten copper consists of 10-50wt.% Fe, 20-40wt.% Si and 20-50wt.% Mn as essential components and inevitably incorporated elements such as C and P, is easy to handle, does not pollute the environment and can be used in a conventional high-frequency induction heating furnace, etc., as it is. At the time of reduction, this reducing agent forms FeO.MnO.SiO2 as a low m.p. multiple oxide, this product is removed with high slag-metal separability and the loss of copper is considerably reduced. This reducing agent can remove oxygen in molten copper in a short time and can extremely reduce the amt. of residual Fe.
