PURPOSE: To improve the corrosion resistance of slag line part by arranging MgO.AL2O3 based spinel-silicon carbide-carbon unburned brick on the slag line part.
CONSTITUTION: MgO.Al2O3 based spinel-silicon carbide-carbon unburned bricks are arranged on slag line part in a molten metal container lined with alumina- silicon carbide-carbon unburned bricks. In the MgO.Al2O3 spinel-silicon carbide- carbon unburned bricks, MgO.Al2O3 spinel prevents the penetration of the slag by dissolving FeO contained in the slag so that the corrosion resistance of the slag line part 2 is improved. But the spinel has a little higher thermal expansion coefficient than the alumina and has a high melting point. The spinel, therefore, does not produce liquid phase so that thermal spalling is prone to occur. Part 3 located below the slag line is lined with the alumina-silicon carbide-carbon unburned bricks. Part 1 located above the slag line is constituted of refractory not containing the carbon.
