PURPOSE: To prevent deterioration of the regenerated picture quality by obtaining the pulse of the frequency proportional to the running velocity of the magnetic tape and counting the number of pulses in the rotary cycle of the rotary magnetic head to obtain the correcting voltage for the tracking error.

CONSTITUTION: Rotary magnetic heads 11A and 11B are supported by shaft 41 of head servo circuit 40, and magnetic tape 1 is made to run on the rotary circumference surfaces of heads 11A and 11B in a fixed velocity. Thus the video signal is regenerated to be supplied to regeneration signal system 10. At the same time, the pulses proportional to the velocity are generated with every turn of heads 11A and 11B via head 43, normal/special regeneration change-over switch 61, pulse generation measn 46, phase comparator 45 and others. These generated signals are supplied to tracking correction circuits 200 and 100, and the detection current varying the levels of heads 11A and 11B is drawn out continuously based on the control signal given from FF circuit 28. Then the tracking error is corrected by the output of circuit 100.
