PURPOSE: To provide a regulating device for a continuously variable transmission in a motor vehicle that can employ existent valves for a low-cost and simplified structure.

CONSTITUTION: The regulating device for use in a motor-vehicle continuously variable transmission 1 mainly consists of a control means for the supply of a hydraulic medium under pressure, another control means for the regulation of the pressure, and a controller 13 formed from on one hand a main valve 14 for the supply and discharge of the hydraulic medium to a regulating cylinder 8 in the continuously variable transmission 1 and on the other hand a control valve 15. Valve elements 16 and 17 within the respective main and control valves 14 and 15 cooperate with each other by means of elastic means, whereby the valve element 16 of the main valve 14 is loaded by a pressure regulated by the control valve 15 and the valve element 17 of the control valve 15 is loaded by a pressure set by the control means.
