PURPOSE: To improve the operability by changing the direction of a remote control transmitter so as to select a menu.

CONSTITUTION: Sensors 2, 3 provide an output based on an angular velocity in the horizontal and vertical directions of a remote control transmitter l. Amplifier AMPs 6, 7 amplify an output of the sensors 2, 3 so as to provide a reference voltage when the remote control transmitter 1 is at a standstill. Thus, a change in the azimuth of the remote control transmitter 1 is discriminated based on whether an output of the AMPs 6, 7 is positive or negative with respect to the reference voltage and or its amplitude. The change is coded by a micro-COM 10 and the code is sent. A micro-COM 17 of a television receiver 15 moves a cursor on a menu display based on the received code. Thus, the menu selection is attained by changing the direction of the remote control 1 and then the operability is improved.
