Title:
REMOVAL OF CAFFEINE FROM COFFEE USING SUPERCRITICAL FLUID
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH03160949
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
PURPOSE: To efficiently extract and remove the caffeine of green coffee by continuously supplying supercritical fluid to an extraction vessel housing the green coffee from its one end, taking the green coffee out of the other end and periodically supplying the green coffee from the other end. CONSTITUTION: The green coffee beans are packed into the extraction vessel 5 and the supercritical fluid (e.g.; nitrogen, propane) is supplied into the extraction vessel 5 from its first terminal part 6 to extract the caffeine contained in the coffee beans. The supercritical fluid contg. the caffeine is taken out of the second terminal part 4 of the extraction vessel 5. The green coffee is periodically put through a valve 1 into a blow case 2 and the green coffee is supplied into the extraction vessel 5 by opening a valve 3. Simultaneously the green coffee from which the caffeine is removed is partially taken out into the blow case 2 by opening a valve 7 and is further taken out by opening a valve 9.
