Title:
REMOVAL OF ORGANIC HALOGEN COMPOUND IN CITY WATER
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS5939386
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To effectively remove organic halogen compounds such as trihalomethane formed by the purification of raw water for service water, by introducing ozone into water to be treated containing the organic halogen compounds while subjecting said water to ultraviolet irradiation, and subjecting it to adsorption to activated carbon.

CONSTITUTION: Ozone is introduced into water to be treated containing organic halogen compounds formed by the purification of raw water for service water while applying ultraviolet rays to said water, and said water is subjected to adsorption to activated carbon. That is, by the conjunction of the very small amount, i.e. 1W5mg/l, of ozone injected into the water to be treated with the ultraviolet irradiation, an oxygen radical exhibiting the power to accelerate the reaction of ozone is activated so that trihalomethane in the water is rapidly oxidatively decomposed. The decomposition products are completely removed in the following step of adsorption to activated carbon, and the life of the activated carbon until its breakdown is prolonged about 5W20 times.
