Abstract:
A direct drive rotary shear machine is described having helical blades secured to oppositely rotating parallel cylinders for transversely shearing a continuously moving web perpendicular to its direction of travel. The machine may be controlled for intermittently shearing the web and/or for continuously shearing the web into sheets of predetermined lengths.
