To provide a rotating shaft for a toroidal type continuously variable transmission allowed to shorten the axial length of the rotating shaft.
This rotating shaft 20 rotated integrally with an input disc of a toroidal type continuously variable transmission having the input disc and an output disc, has a collar part 50 with mutually parallel flat faces 70 from the end face side view of the rotating shaft 20, and spline grooves 51 formed near the collar part 50. The spline grooves 51 are formed along the axial direction of the rotating shaft 20 so as to accommodate balls for fixing the input disc and rotating shaft 20 in the rotating direction. Each spline groove 51 is formed in a corresponding position to each flat face 70 so as to point to the cross direction center 70a of each flat face 70 of the collar part 50.
