Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a roughing end mill capable of fully demonstrating the excellent wear resistance of a hard film such as TiAlN and TiCN, and of achieving the long life and high efficiency.
CONSTITUTION: In a roughing end mill for rough machining having a corrugated cutting blade on the outer periphery of the blade tip part of a tool base material, the conugated cutting blade is coated with a hard film mainly composed of TiAlN and/or TiCN and with hardness of ≥HV 2000, while the tool base material is composed of the high speed steel with hardness of ≥HV 900, and V and Co contained in the tool base material satisfies the inequality: 0< V(wt.%)+Co(wt.%)<15.
