Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a rubber compsn. having excellent breaking strength and wear resistance and suitable for use as a material for tire treads, sidewalls, etc., consisting of an alkoxysilane-modified diene (co)polymer and silica filler.

CONSTITUTION: A conjugated diene monomer such as 1,3-butadiene and optionally other monomer such as styrene are (co)polymerized in the presence of an organolithium compd. such as n-butyllithium in a hydrocarbon solvent. The active terminals of the resulting polymer are reacted with an alkoxysilane compd. of the formula (wherein R1 is a 1W6C alkyl; R2 is a 1W3C alkyl; X is alkenyl, halogen; n is 1W3; m is 0W2) to obtain an alkoxysilane-modified diene (co)polymer (A) having a Moony viscosity (ML1+4, 100°C) of 10W150 and a rubber weight fraction of 20wt% or above. 10W100phr of silica filler and optionally oil extender, vulcanizing agent, etc. are blended with component A.
