Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a driver's unintended acceleration/deceleration from being repeated by transferring a cruise control means to a setting vehicle speed mode when a presently measured inter-vehicle distance with a preceding vehicle is a given value longer than a previously measured inter-vehicle distance in a following mode.
SOLUTION: This device is provided with a distance detecting means 110, a relative speed detecting means 112, and an image pickup device 114, as detecting means for detecting a state of a preceding vehicle. Information of the state of the preceding vehicle detected by the distance detecting means 110, the relative speed detecting means 112, and the image pickup device 114 is taken into a cruise control means 100. The cruise control means 100 having the information transfers from a following mode to a setting vehicle speed mode using the present vehicle speed as a vehicle speed command when a presently measured inter-vehicle for the preceding vehicle is a given value longer than a previously measured inter-vehicle distance in the following mode for controlling a vehicle so as to keep the distance with the preceding vehicle to be an inter-vehicle distance command value.
