To provide a safety output device for a controller including a self-diagnostic function capable of performing safe control and self-diagnosis in parallel, and to provide a self-diagnostic method for the same.
The safety output device includes: an output control part 1 instructing to output normal output data and first self-diagnostic pattern data in synchronization with a control period; a normal output part 2 outputting the normal output data in synchronization with the control period; a test pattern generation part 3 encoding the self-diagnostic pattern data as a pulse train signal having a pulse width not larger than a preset pulse width, and outputting the pulse train signal by a base band transmission system; a composition output part 4 composing and outputting the pulse train signal and a normal output signal; a reconfiguration part 5 decoding an operation end part 13 output signal, and reconfiguring it as second self-diagnostic pattern data; and a comparison part 6 comparing the first self-diagnostic pattern data and the second self-diagnostic pattern data to decide the presence/absence of a difference.
