PURPOSE: To avoid a collision between adjacent cars by simply detecting various abnormalities of a system.
CONSTITUTION: Multiple cars 4A, 4B,... are independently driven and operated by a motor 3 respectively in a hoistway formed with an ascending hoistway and a descending hoistway connected at the upper and lower sections into a loop to form a circulation type elevator operation system. The transit information of cars is detected by sensors 5a, 5b,... installed in the hoistway, and it is processed by a central monitoring means 1. The operation information on the positions, speeds, and intervals of the cars is obtained to judge an abnormality, and the operation is controlled. The cars 4A, 4B,... are identified by the simple processing of information, their speeds and relative distances can be monitored, and the cars can be prevented from approaching and colliding with each other even when an abnormality occurs.
