PURPOSE: To obtain the subject material, containing a specific salicylic acid derivative as an electron accepting compound, remarkably improved in preservation stability of an uncolored part and a colored image and improved in coloring sensitivity.
CONSTITUTION: The objective material contains an electron donative coloring compound and an electron accepting compound selected from salicylic acid derivatives expressed by formula I (X1 and X2 are H, alkyl, etc.; Y1 and Y2 are O or S; R1 is H, aryl, etc.; R2 is alkyl, alkenyl, etc.) and its metallic salts [e.g. 3-(isopropyloxycarbonylamino)salicylic acid]. This compound expressed by formula I is preferably obtained by reacting a compound expressed by formula II with a compound expressed by formula III (Z is halogen) in the presence of an alcoholic solvent. Furthermore, bi- to tetravalent metallic salts in the metallic salts of the compounds expressed by formula I are new compounds and preferably prepared by treating the compounds expressed by formula I with an alkali salt, then treating the resultant compounds with water-soluble bi-to tetravalent metallic compounds and metathesizing the obtained compounds.
