Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a single emulsifier for stuffing leather and rawhide for fur by copolymerizing an ethylenically unsatd. carboxylic acid, a mono- or polyethylenically unsatd. fatty acid deriv., a nitrile or amine, and an arylolefin in a specified ratio.

CONSTITUTION: 1-99 wt.% structural units of formula I [R1 and R2 are each H or 1-4C alkyl; R3 is H or 1-4C alkyl, pref. methyl; X is -(CH2)1-10- or 6-18C aryl, pref. phenyl; and M is an alkali or alkaline earth metal or ammonium ion], 99-1 wt.% structural units of formula II (R4 is 2-16C alkyl or 2-16C alkenyl; Y is 1-13C alkylene or the like; and Z is CN or the like), 0-40 wt.% structural units of formula III (R1 to R3 are each the same as described above; and X is CN or the like), and 0-40 wt.% structural units of formula IV (V is 6-18C aryl, pref. phenyl, phenoxyacetyl or the like) are copolymerized.
