Title:
SALT-WATER PURIFICATION
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS5575788
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To remove Ca ions and Mg ions in purification of salt-water for use in electrolytic caustic soda preparation by quickly reacting Ca and Mg ions with silicate ions to convert the ions to silicates of Ca and Mg which is quick to settle and easy to filter.

CONSTITUTION: Caustic soda is added to crude conc. salt-water to adjust its pH to 8W9. This is then added with water soluble alkali silicate in an amount such that silicate ions will exceed eq. of Ca and Mg ions in aq. soln. state. By further adding caustic soda until pH exceeds 10, Ca and Mg can be removed.
