Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for reducing and controlling the impact of noise related the offset value of a sample, and a technique for adapting the bit depth of the offset value of a sample.SOLUTION: The offset value such as the sample adaptive offset (SAO) value in video coding standard, such as high efficiency video coding (HEVC), is improved by executing calculation and operation for improving accuracy of these values, without substantially affecting the signal overhead required for transmission of more accurate values. Such calculation and operation include to apply a quantization gene to a video sample and at least some adjacent samples, to compare the quantized values, and to distinguish the video samples as one of minimum, maximum, or various types of edge based on comparison. Other sample range, offset mode and/or parameters of offset accuracy are calculated using metadata for improving the accuracy of offset value, and transmitted.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
