To provide a seating management system capable of confirming names of participants in a seminar, event, and lecture, identifying entrance examinees or the like, and obtaining seating conditions of employees in an office or the like easily and reliably.
A participant places/holds an IC card 5 or a portable terminal 6 with an IC on or over a reader-writer 4 on the desk to read an ID or private information of the participant (a step 101). The ID or private information of the participant read by the IC card reader-writer 4 is attached to his/her own seat number and sent to a server 2 (a step 102). The private information on the participant is read from a database 7 using the ID of the participant received by the server 2 as a key (a step 103). A seating list is created by associating the read private information on the participant and the seat number of the IC card reader writer 4 (a step 104). The created seating list is downloaded to a PC terminal 3 of an instructor (a step 105). The seating list received by the PC terminal 3 is displayed on a screen (a step 106).
