PURPOSE: To reduce energy consumption, elongate the service life of a pump, lower the noise of the pump and maintain a fuel supply pressure constantly by providing a device responsive to the fuel pressure within a house to control the power supply to a pump armature.
CONSTITUTION: A pressure sensor 60 is carried by a housing 18, specifically by an outlet end cap 14, and is responsive to a fuel pressure within the housing 18 surrounding an armature 22 for controlling a current to a pump armature. A piston 64 of a permanent magnet is slidable within a sleeve bearing 66 in a bore 62 formed in the output end cap 14. A hall-effect sensor 72 projects into the bore 62. The sensor 72 provides an electrical output signal to an amplifier 74 as a position function of the piston 64. The output of the amplifier 74 is coupled to the base of a transistor 76 which has an emitter and a collector connected in series with terminals 46, 48 and the armature 22 through a battery 78.
