PURPOSE: To enable punching a small-bore branch pipe and an inclined branch pipe by carrying out the punching process wherein a self-traveling punching device is made to travel within a pipe such as a soil pipe, a carriage is stopped at the position of a target branch pipe, and temporarily locked with a rotation locking mechanism, and then a tool is aligned in position and angle for punching.
CONSTITUTION: A pipe axial line drive device 50 is actuated and moved in a main pipe, thereby seeking for a small-bore hole opened preliminarily from a branch pipe, using an image pickup device 40 and a cabled TV. The device 50 is stopped where the hole has been found. Then, the cylinder piston of a rotation locking mechanism 80 is actuated and a wheel 70 for rotation is locked to the inner wall of a pipe under relatively low pressure. In this condition, the whole device is turned and a cylindrical cutter 21 is turned, thereby inserting a drill 2 in said small-bore hole and expanding the bore. And after the confirmation of the existence or the non-existence of bore eccentricity, the hydraulic pressure of the cylinder is raised to some extent and the cylindrical cutter 21 is operated for punching. According to the aforesaid constitution, it becomes easy to punch a hole on the branch of the small-bore pipe and the branch pipe inclined from the main pipe thereof.
