Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a separate sheet which deos not allow the propagation of miscellaneous bacteria, is lightweight, and has improved strengths, stiffness, britteness and slipperiness by extruding a mixture of a specific thermoplastic polyester resin and a blowing agent and cooling the resultant foam sheet.
SOLUTION: A mixture of a thermoplastic polyester resin having a number average mol.wt. of 17,000 or higher and a melt viscosity modifier is fed to an extruder, melted therein, mixed with a blowing agent pressed in, and extruded through a metal die into a low-pressure zone in the form of a sheet to give a foam sheet having a density of 0.15-0.5g/cc. The foam sheet is immediately cooled with at least two rolls adjusted to a surface temp. of 170°C or lower to crystallize, thus giving a separate sheet having a degree of crystallization of 15% or lower, a density of 0.15-0.5g/cc, and an elongation at break of 60% or higher.
