PURPOSE: To separate an ethyl tert-butyl ether(ETBE) from a mixture consisting of ethanol and ETBE in a various ratio.
CONSTITUTION: A mixture produced at the time of an addition reaction of ethanol with isobutyne contained in a 4C fraction from steam cracking, catalytic cracking or dehydrogenation of isobutane is fed to an column extraction CE through a pipe line 1, is brought into contact with water fed through a pipe line 6 and an ETBE phase saturated in water is taken out through a pipe line 2. An extract phase is taken out from the bottom of the column extraction CE through a pipe line 5, heated PC 1, fed to a column concentration CC and an azeotropic composition distillate of ethanol-water is recovered from the top, a water residue is recovered from the bottom. The ETBE phase saturated in water is taken out from a pipe line 14 to be collected together with a purified material 2 from the column extraction CE. The distillate 11 from the column concentration CC is fed to a column distillation CD 1, an ethanol residue is recovered from the bottom, the top flux 15 is collected together with the top flux 17 of the column distillation CD 2 to be condensed, which is fed to a decanter D1 to separated into an upper part phase enriched in ETBE to be fed to the column CD 1 top part and a lower part phase enriched in water to be fed to the column CD 2 top part.
