PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide separator paper increasing the liquid holding rate of an electrolyte by simultaneously satisfying compactness, compactness for preventing internal short circuit caused by zinc oxide dendrite, etc., accompanied with mercuryless, and a liquid holding property for enhancing heavy discharge performance.
SOLUTION: The constitution of separator paper for an alkaline battery is provided as follows: The separator paper is formed by laying up and integrating a compact layer having compactness on and with a liquid holding layer having a liquid holding property. The compact layer is formed by mixing and paper-making an alkali-resistant cellulose fiber capable of beating with a synthetic fiber. The compact layer contains the alkali-resistant cellulose fiber capable of beating in the range of 20 to 80weight%, and also has the degree of beating the alkali-resistant cellulose fiber capable of beating in the range of 500 to 0ml in CSF value. The liquid holding layer is formed by mixing and paper-making the alkali-resistant cellulose fiber with the synthetic fiber. The liquid holding layer contains the alkali-resistant cellulose fiber in the range of 20 to 80weight%, and also has the degree of beating the alkali-resistant cellulose fiber of 700ml or more in CSF value.
