PURPOSE: To make the titled device flat in form and smaller in size while enlarging the radius of turning of a head, by providing a fulcrum for turning a printing head in a direction C orthogonal to both a head-moving direction X and a direction Y for pressing and separating the head from a platen.

CONSTITUTION: The fulcrum 10 for turning the printing head 2 is formed in the direction C orthogonal to the head-moving direction X, whereby a head support member 3 connecting the fulcrum 10 and the head 2 to each other can be extended along the direction X. On the other hand, a length of at least the maximum width of recording paper is secured in the direction X, so that the length of the member 3 can be sufficiently long in the direction X, that is, quite a large radius of turning of the head 2 can be provided irrespective of the position at which a guide shaft 4 is disposed. As a result, quite a large radius of turning of the head 2 can be provided while reducing the total height and size of the recorder, and accordingly, it is unnecessary to pay considerable attention to working and assembling accuracies or the like, and the thickness of the recording paper is not restricted.
