PURPOSE: To set up a roll with an accurate adjustment immediately when a rolling speed or roll diameter changes by establishing an equation for calculating the eoefft. of friction having versatility in cold rolling and predicting rolling characteristics by using said equation.
CONSTITUTION: It is a known fact that the coefft. of friction between a cold rolling roll and a material to be rolled decreases with and increase in a roll diameter and rolling speed. The coefft. of friction μ is expressed by the equation I where the constants determined by a rolling mill oil and roll surface are designated as a1, a2, the reference values of a work roll diameter and roll speed as DO, DRO, and the actual values of a work roll diameter and roll speed as D, VR. The coefft. of friction μ is incorporated into the known calculation equation, by which the rolling load, rolling torque, power and forward slip are calculated. The accuracy in the forward slip is improved by about 2% error in a mass flow ratio if the conditions are set in the above-mentioned way. A calculation for correct adjustment are made possible even when the roll diameter changes and therefore the accuracy of products and working efficiency are improved.
