PURPOSE: To cut an end plate (ear chip) in the best condition and reduce generation of scrap to a minimum, by controlling the feed amount of a sheared work at shearing of the ear chip in a side shear.

CONSTITUTION: If shearing work is started, a sheared work is transferred by the preset amount at a fixed pitch through a tape roller 14 and pinch rollers 12a, 12b for every one cut operation of a side shear. A tail end moving distance l, after detection of a tail by a tail end detector 15 to a position where the sheared work 13 is stopped for shearing operation, is calculated from a number of revolutions of the pinch roller 12b (or 12a). Residual length of the sheared work 13, if assumed L for a distance from the end plate cut position by a shear knife to the tail end detector 15, can be obtained from (L-l). Hence, considering actual shearing length, condition of an incidental equipment, end plate binding, etc., a feed amount of the sheared work 13 is controlled by a control device 10 so that said residual length can be equally divided, thus optimum dimensions of the end plate can be obtained.
