To make it possible to reduce the thickness of a sheet-like absorber formed with an absorption surface contg. a highly water absorptive resin (SAP) on a sheet-like support and to effectively adhere the SAP onto the support even if the sheet-like support is hydrophilic or hydrophobic.

An absorber compsn. consisting essentially of the SAP, a binder resin exhibiting adhesiveness to both of the SAP and the sheet-like support and a thickener exhibiting a gel-like state by thickening when mixed with this binder resin is supported on the sheet-like support, by which the sheet-like absorber is formed. The production of such compsn. is executed by dispersing the SAP, the binder and the thickener into a solvent mixture composed of an org. solvent having water compatibility and water to prepare a slurry and applying this slurry on the sheet-like support, then drying the coating. Absorber products, such as paper diapers, are obtd. by using such sheet-like absorber as one of component elements.
