PURPOSE: To obtain a shopping card system, with which a pre-paid supplementary function can be added to receipt and entertainment such as horoscope and the like can be added.
CONSTITUTION: A terminal device 1 equipped with a card reader/writer 6 is arranged at every store and connected through communication circuit 7 with a host computer 9. An IC card 5 (or magnetic card) is issued to a registered customer so as to read a card number, pre-paid residual sum or residual point at the previous shopping out of the card 5 by inserting the card in the terminal device 1 at the purchase of goods. After that, the renewed pre-paid residual sum or the like is recorded by the terminal device 1 onto the card. At the same time, a receipt 3, on which the pre-paid residual sum or the like is printed, is issued and the data are sent enbloc periodically to the host computer 9. Further, by the terminal device 1 of the system, entertainment such as written oracle, horoscope, biorhythm and the like can be enjoyed.
