PURPOSE: To restrain thermal deformation of a side weir and to prevent leakage of molten metal by forming heat medium chamber enclosing the heat medium at base seat in one pair of side weirs forming pouring basin part together with one pair of drums.
CONSTITUTION: The pouring basin part 111 is formed with one pair of the rotating water cooling drums 110 and one pair of the side weirs 10 to continuously cast a strip S. Then, in the base seats 1 in the side weir 10, the heat medium chamber 9 enclosing the heat medium is formed, and in the pouring basin part 111 side, refractory material 104 and lower end refractory material 105 having a heater 106 are arranged and rear is pressed with a pressing device 6 penetrating a insulating material 4 and a cover 5. The heat medium chamber 9 is degassed and supplied with the heat medium (e.g. potassium) of the prescribed quantity through a sealing pipe 2 and the chamber is sealed with a cap 3, and temps. of the heat medium chamber 9 and the base seat 1 are always uniformized with soaking action through the vapor phase heat medium K1 and the liquid phase heat medium K to minimize heat variation of the side weir 10. By this method, stickness between the side face of water cooling drum 110 and the refractories 104, 105 is improved and the leakage of molten metal is prevented.
