Abstract:
PURPOSE:To widen the screen and to improve the band of a chrominance carrier signal or an audio signal at the same time by applying time axis compression to a carrier signal or an audio signal and sending it to a prescribed part being the result of cutting off the screen on which the video signal is displayed. CONSTITUTION:Suppose that the aspect ratio of the effective screen 4:3 in the NTSC system is changed into the aspect ratio of 16:9, let the lateral width of the effective screen be 1, the longitudinal height is 0.75 for the aspect ratio of 4:3 and 0.563 for the aspect ratio of 16:9. The longitudinal width 0.563 is used as the core and the longitudinal height 0.187 (=0.75-0.563) is an ineffective part on the wide screen and the part is used as the side. In the case of recording and reproducing the video signal with a wider aspect ratio, the chrominance carrier signal is subject to time axis compression and reproduced/recorded in the sides resulting from the screen whose upper and lower parts. Thus, the wide screen is attained and the band of the chrominance carrier signal is improved.
