Abstract:
PURPOSE:To obtain the subject lightweight and high-toughness material excellent in resistance to heat and combustion, having high mechanical strength and good molding processability by condensation reaction of silicate(s), followed by ring opening polymerization of the resulting silicon-contg. cyclic compound. CONSTITUTION:The objective hybrid material excellent in resistance to environment, suitable as a structural material for aerospace applications, material for houses, etc., is obtained by (A) condensation reaction of silicate(s) such as sodium orthosilicate with lithium metasilicate and/or derivative(s) therefrom, followed by (B) ring opening polymerization of the resulting silicon-contg. cyclic compound such as polysiloxane-based one.
