To reduce fluctuation and deterioration of photographic performance and to neutralize a silver image tone after development by incorporating a specified dye in a silver halide emulsion layer.
The silver halide emulsion layer contains flat silver halide grains having principal (111) faces and occupying ≥50% of the projection areas of the total silver halide grains and each of these flat grains has an aspect ratio of 2-20 and an average silver iodide content of 0-1.0mol% and has its grain grown in the presence of a silver halide solvent, and the silver halide emulsion layer or a nonphotosensitive hydrophilic colloidal layer contains a dye represented by formula I and a polymer dye comprising monomer units each represented by the formula: (Dye)-Q and at least one kind of dye represented by formula III, and in formula I, Dye is a dye skeleton; and Ball is a ballasting group; and X is COOW1 or SO3W2, and in formula II, A is an atomic group necessary to form an azomethine dye, and R1 is a group replaceable with benzene ring.
