PURPOSE: To reduce the trouble about the application of the titled material, and to improve the sharpness and the color reproducibility of an image by incorporating a specified magenta coupler, a noncoloring phenolic compd. and an anionic surface active agent in an emulsion layer of the titled material.

CONSTITUTION: The titled material contains the magenta coupler shown by formula I, the noncoloring phenolic compd. (such as the compd. shown by formula II) and the anionic surface active agent (such as the compd. shown by formula III) in one or more layers of photosensitive silver halide emulsion layers of the titled material. In the formula, X is H atom. or a group capable of releasing by reacting with the oxidant of a color developing main agent, R1 and R2 are each H atom. or a substituent group, R6 and R7 are each 1W20C alkyl or cycloalkyl group, (n) is 0W3, R is 6W20C aliphatic group, A is oxygen atom. or a benzene ring, etc. The titled material which has less frequency of trouble about the application and the excellent sharpness and color reproducibility, is obtd.
