To provide a small and light image pickup element whose opening rate with respect to incident light is made to be almost 100% and which has a simple structure.
A material having sensitivity only to red light, a material having sensitivity only to green light and a material having sensitivity only to blue light, whose frequencies for reducing electric capacity of a film differ from one another, are used for a light receiving face 21 as photosensitive materials. The element is composed of an AC electric field applying circuit 22 applying an AC electric field to the light receiving face 21 so that the frequency can be scanned, an electric capacity measuring circuit 23 measuring the electric capacity of the light receiving face 21 and a color component separation circuit 24 separating the volume of a change in electric capacity into red, green and blue components. Thus, a desired picture signal is obtained by outputting an electric capacity value signal from the electric capacity measuring circuit 23 as an output signal.
