To accurately measure the color of skin while taking not only the absorption of red light and green light, but also the absorption of blue light into consideration and to reduce measurement errors caused when cosmetics, fat, or other dirt is sticking on the skin surface and when the skin is chapped.
This instrument is equipped with light emitting elements (LD1 to LD3) which irradiate the skin with primary-color lights of red, green, and blue through a light transmission part (5) formed atop of a measurement head (2) made to abut against the skin and a light receiving element (PD) which receives lights reflected by the skin through the light transmission part (5), and polarizers (P1, P2, and P3) and an analyzer (A) are arranged on the irradiation optical axes (X1, X2, and X3) reaching the light transmission part (5) from the light emitting elements (LD1 to LD3) and the reflection optical axis (R) reaching the light receiving element (PD) from the light transmission part (5) so that they can be switched between orthogonal Nicol and parallel Nicol modes.
