PURPOSE: To prevent the butt part failure caused by a snake motion of a belt- like skelp and to improve the quality of a butt welded tube by installing the roll axial direction center of a horizontal stand forming roll so as to be turnable.
CONSTITUTION: With respect to a horizontal stand 4 of a pair of forming rolls provided between a heating furnace and a vertical stand forming roll, the whole thereof is supported by a rotary base 14 and a guide 15 together with a driving system containing a motor 12 and a speed reducer 13. At the time of threading, by pinching a belt-like skelp by the forming rolls 8, the forming rolls 8 are driven. In the case a snake motion is generated in the belt-like skelp, it is detected, and in accordance with a state of the snake motions a cylinder 9 is operated, and the forming rolls are turned centering around the axis center 11. While executing steering so as to obviate the snake motion, the belt-like skelp is guided to the vertical stand forming roll. In such a way, the workability at the time of manufacturing a butt welded tube is improved.
