PURPOSE: To ensure the easy handling of a measurement device, prevent the erroneous operation thereof, make the device less expensive and small and portable, and enable the operation of the device on battery power by using a semiconductor light receiving element for an optical detection means, and adopting a gas combustion system for heating a sample.
CONSTITUTION: Thermal fluorescence and chemical luminescence generated due to the heating of a sample S are detected. In this case, a sample holder 1 is heated with gas combustion heat from the gas cylinder 17 of a portable heating means 2, and the temperature of the sample S kept in the holder 1 is raised approximately constantly. Weak thermal fluorescence and chemical luminescence thereby generated are introduced to the semiconductor light receiving element 21 of an optical detection means 4 via a light guide 3, and the light intensity thereof is converted to an electrical signal proportional to the intensity with a means 4 operating with a battery 6. Also, a temperature measurement means 5 similarly operating with the battery 6 measure the temperature of the portion of the holder 1 in the vicinity of the sample S. Furthermore, an output signal proportional to light intensity obtained with the means 4 is corrected in the stage of signal analysis and processing on the basis of a temperature signal obtained with the means 5.
