To provide a sound insulating member made of wood which permits the effective utilization of thinning wood and has excellent sound absorbing properties and durability in spite of wood works and a sound insulating wall made of wood.
A plurality of logs 1 consisting of the thinning wood are bundled by a plurality of connecting bolts 2 in their diametral direction. Carbonized layers 1a are formed to a prescribed thickness on the outer peripheral surfaces of the respective logs 1. The thickness of the carbonized layers 1a is preferably 5 to 30 mm in view of sound absorption characteristics and strength. In such a case, side parts 1c of the logs on another side are fitted into recessed parts 1b formed in the side parts of the logs 1 on one side between the logs 1 and 1 adjacent to each other, by which the adjacent logs 1 are tightly bonded to each other. Further, the connecting bolts 2 continuously pass the bolt holes 1d formed at the respective logs 1, by which the plural logs 1 are integrally bundled in a planar form to each other.
