Title:
SOUNDING DEVICE USING FERROELECTRIC LIQUID CRYSTAL
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH02309900
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To output loud sound by simple constitution by sealing the ferroelectric liquid crystal and forming a horn which uses a substrate as its bottom surface and has an opening part atop integrally on at least one of a couple of substrates which have driving electrodes on their opposite surfaces.

CONSTITUTION: The couple of substrates 1 and 2 made of glass or high polymer resin are arranged opposite each other at a constant interval and the driving electrodes 3 and 4 are formed on the opposite surfaces of those substrates 1 and 2. Then the ferroelectric liquid crystal 7 is charged between the driving electrodes 3 and 4 across orienting layers 5 and 6 and sealed with a sealing material 8. On the substrate 1, the horn 9 which uses the substrate 1 as its bottom surface and has the opening part atop is formed integrally on the substrate 1. When the driving electrodes 3 and 4 are applied with a sound generation driving signal, the ferroelectric liquid crystal 7 vibrates by piezoelectric effect to generate a sound. This sound is reflected and reinforced in the horn 9 and radiated out. Consequently, loud sound is obtained.
